How to supply and set up your files for Embroidery On Demand
How to set up your embroidery files for Embroidery On Demand:
Firstly, its important to know that embroidery works a little differently to our digital printing methods. A digital file can't be used directly for embroidery, it must first be converted into a set of information about stitch types and lengths that the embroidery machine can understand. This process is called digitization.
We recommend using our digitising service for two main reasons:
- The digitisation will be created for our embroidery machines and our specific embroidery threads and garments.
- If there are any issues with the final digitised embroidery ready design, we can work with our digitisers, sampling, checking and revising until we have the desired outcome.
You can provide digitised embroidery files in .dst format but if there are any issues with the file or the outcome we can't alter them for you. There are many cheap digitisation services available but we have chosen a UK based long established Embroidery Digitisers to work with who have significant experience with the threads we use.
Supplying files for embroidery:
Our current system holds a digital graphic file for embroidery, and we hold the digitised file in our database. To make sure the the artwork you supply and the file we store for you match, the following file naming convention is strongly recommended:
[Brand or Customer Name]_[Design Name]_[Design Size in width x height in mm]_[Garment Type]_[Thread Colour].png
So for instance:
The file you would supply:
Ecomerch_Logo_53x80mm_shorts_1694.png
The digitised file we keep in our machine database:
Ecomerch_Logo_53x80mm_shorts_1694.dst
Using the same embroidery files for different products:
This is possible in most cases as long as the garments are similar in fabric and finish. You can usually use the same embroidery files for t-shirts and hoodies for example, however t-shirts and caps would require difference stitch types and sequences so they can't be shared.
Critically, the embroidery and file size must not change. A change in size will require a new digitisation.
In terms of file naming, where we suggest the following:
[Brand or Customer Name]_[Design Name]_[Design Size in width x height in mm]_[Garment Type]_[Thread Colour].png
The [Garment Type] can be as general as 'Clothing'. Likewise, for caps you would need to change this to be 'Headwear' or hats. Please bear in mind that knitted Beanies may not be able to share the same digitisation as Caps or Buck Hats.
Using the same embroidery files but different thread colours:
This is possible and usually will not require any digitisation change as long as the design remains the same size.
In this case, please use a digital file (.png) with the updated colour and remember to change the [Thread Colour] in the file naming.
[Brand or Customer Name]_[Design Name]_[Design Size in width x height in mm]_[Garment Type]_[Thread Colour].png
